Hard Rock Stadium in the Miami Gardens area of Florida is the setting for the Miami International Autodrome, a temporary circuit designed specifically for motor racing with a predicted average speed of 139 mph (223 km/h) being possible on this 3.363-mile (5.412-kilometer) track’s 19 turns.
Formula One track designers Apex Circuit Design were responsible for designing and delivering the track for the 2022 Formula One season, when the Miami Grand Prix was added to the Formula One schedule.
The History Of The Miami International Autodrome
The venue’s basic concept for the track was offered as early as October 2019 and up to 75 different circuit layouts were studied and 36 simulated. Owner Stephen Ross had been pursuing Formula One for years before the stadium’s first design was made public.
The Grand Prix’s organizers had an agreement to have a race at Hard Rock Stadium beginning in 2021, however this was pushed back as the Miami Gardens commission had previously voted against building the track but changed their minds in April 2021 and the Miami International Autodrome became the track’s official name on September 2, 2021.
The Miami International Autodrome Circuit
This track utilizes both recently constructed and pre-existing roads within Hard Rock Stadium’s own grounds and the asphalt walkways of the new course are incorporated into the parking lots of Hard Rock Stadium and although temporary in nature, the circuit crosses public roads but does not use any of the streets near Hard Rock Stadium.
The track and its safety measures are built from scratch each year and usually within the last few weeks before race weekend. As soon as the race is over, the track is taken down and the grounds of Hard Rock Stadium are returned to their original state so that the circuit would cause minimal disruption to the local community.
On May 8, 2022, the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens, Florida, hosted the 2022 Miami Grand Prix which was the 2022 Formula One World Championship’s fifth round.
Is The Miami International Autodrome Permanent
The track has temporary infrastructure but is built as a permanent style circuit with barriers and fences that are removed when the racing is over.
