Located near Miami Beach’s southernmost edge, South Pointe Park is a lovely stretch of greenery with views of the ocean, cruise ships at PortMiami, Downtown Miami’s skyline and Fisher Island that are breathtaking.
The park features a cafe, a park for dogs and a walking track that leads directly to the beach and along with the usual fare of an outdoor gym and playground, the park also features a miniature water feature, ideal for cooling off on hot summer days but the best part is that there is a restaurant, with both sit-down and takeout also located in the park.
You can take a seat on a park bench and read a book while basking in the shade cast by the numerous palm trees or you can simply take a rest in the cool breezy air or stroll along the 20-foot wide promenade and snap some pictures of Fisher Island across the lake and the passing boats on your way to South Pointe Pier.
Kids can also enjoy the water cannons and motion-activated tiny splash zone near the picnic tables and grills.
Those interested in the more active pastimes of running, bicycling, rollerblading or skateboarding, have their pick of various twisting routes through South Pointe Park but remember that the grass is off-limits to bicycles, rollerblades and skateboards.
Visit the off-leash Bark Park on the western side of South Pointe Park with your dog today but take note that your four-legged friends must be leashed in all other areas of the park.
Also at the park is a lovely scenic spot called The Hills which is open every day between 8am-8pm and if you walk to the top end of the park you will see the South Pointe Park Lighthouse tourist attraction which is a great place to take amazing photo’s and videos and is open 7 days a week between 7.30am-8pm.
The Pier On South Pointe
Fishing and watching kayaks, surfers and jet skiers on the 450-foot South Point Pier is a favorite pastime for both tourists and residents. It also has a spot to watch the fish, turtles and other sea life, a way to recycle fishing lines, a bait station and a place to clean your catch, so all in all, is a great place to spend a sunny morning or afternoon.
South Pointe Beach
Spend some time relaxing with the sand between your toes at South Pointe beach where you can hire a lounge chair or an umbrella to keep the sun off your shoulders. Surfing, volleyball and paddle boarding are all popular activities at this beach, which is frequented by both locals and tourists all year round.
There is also the beach pavilion known as the ‘Drumcircle’ on South Pointe Beach that currently only opens on Sundays between 5-11pm while near the children’s splash area you will find restrooms, outdoor showers and the South Pointe Cafe
Is South Pointe Park Free
YES, it’s absolutely free at all times.
Is South Pointe Beach Crowded
South Point Beach, Park and Pier are busy during the summer months of June to August but even then, there’s still plenty of space and quiet spots if you want a more low key relaxing vibe.
When Is The Best Time To Visit South Pointe Park
Visiting South Point Park early morning or around sunset are your best bets especially in summer to avoid the crowds and the mid day temperatures as it tends to get quite warm in the summer.
My recommendation would be for a trip to Miami, is anytime between September and April when the weather is cooler and more pleasant and the rainy season has ended.
Where Do You Park For South Pointe Beach
Plenty of parking is available near South Pointe Park and Pier, some of it may be found near both Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue, which are located between 0.4 and 0.8 miles away. The parking lots on Washington Avenue are convenient because one of them is free and the hours of 3 AM to 9 AM are often free parking hours in South Beach.
What Time Does South Point Pier Close
You can visit South Pointe Pier for free any time as it’s currently open 24 hours per day.
Are Dogs Allowed At South Pointe Park
If your best friend happens to be a dog, you’ll love spending time at the park as both the paved promenade and the green spaces attract dog walkers from early morning to late into the evening.
The grassy area to the southwest of the entry plaza on Washington Avenue is a fantastic off-leash location for dogs and it’s always fun to just watch them run around having fun.
