A D Doug Barnes Park Miami

One of the busiest sections in Miami is home to a 65-acre park called A.D. Barnes Park named after Miami-Dade County’s first director of parks and recreation.

Barnes is firm belief that all residents should have access to recreational opportunities and the park has been welcoming individuals since it opened in 1977.

Bring your swimming suit so you can swim in the 25-meter, 6-lane pool at A.D. “Doug” Barnes Park, as well as a picnic lunch, your favorite books, and binoculars.

Since its opening in 1977, the park has hosted a variety of programs and activities for individuals of all abilities, including swimming lessons for kids and water exercise sessions for elderly.

Recreational Activities For The Whole Family

SW Miami’s A.D. “Doug” Barnes Park is a 65-acre haven for families, complete with native forest ecosystems, a fishing lake, heated pool, jogging paths, picnic pavilions, a playground, and easy access from the busy Bird Road thoroughfare.

A.D. Barnes Park provides a tranquil escape from the city and numerous opportunities to reconnect with nature thanks to its 15 acres of native tropical hardwood hammock and pine rockland habitats.

Go For A Hike In The Pine Rockland

15 acres of lovely pine trees and limestone floors are part of a rare dry habitat protected by the park. The paved trail is suitable for walkers of all skill levels and is home to spectacular animals like white-tailed deer and zebra long-wing butterflies.

The Audubon Society has named this Miami trailhead as one of the best places to go birdwatching in the fall and spring because of the high concentration of migratory birds that can be seen here. It’s possible that you’ll see a bald eagle.

Visit the Nature Center to see the anti-venom reptile collection from the Miami-Dade County Fire Department, find more about the park’s natural fauna, and book a spot on one of Miami Ecoadventures’ guided tours.

Tent Site With Easy Access For Recreation

The campground and cabins can be reserved for group use during the weekend. Within the thick of the pine rockland forest are two private cabins, each with enough room for 10 twin beds and a few more if needed on the floor (occupancy load of 20 people per cabin).

Each cabin features two completely functional bathrooms with showers, ceiling fans, and central air conditioning and heating. The lodge and its accompanying dining hall and fully equipped kitchen are available for booking as a venue for corporate events and other gatherings.
